Extra Limb
seaweed wrapped foam texts
8' x 14' each wall
2011
A site specific installation in a former munitions warehouse on Governors Island in NY Harbor. Each seaweed letter subtly shifts form with temperature and humidity changes.
The text imagines discovering an extra limb and trying to figure out its purpose, a metaphor for the re-purposing of the island (a former military base being slowly converted to a city park) into a public space.
